Swim to Save Lives at the Third Annual Coast 2 Coast Swim Challenge
CULVER CITY, Calif. (November 15, 2012) –
Make a difference in a child’s life and enjoy a great day at the pool at the Third Annual Coast 2 Coast Swim Challenge (C2C) on Sunday, June 2nd at the Culver City Plunge. The C2C is the LA Tri Club’s signature charity event, held to heighten awareness of the fact that drowning is the leading cause of death of children 14 and younger in California and to combat this problem locally, by raising funds to provide free swim instruction for under-served LA kids.
100% of the proceeds from the C2C pay for swim lessons aimed at reducing child-drowning accidents in LA. Did you know that LA County has the highest number of near-drowning accidents of any county in the state?
Swim with us the morning of June 2nd and you’ll witness the impact of the C2C firsthand. Students from Bethune Middle School in South LA who learned how to swim thanks to the C2C will “swim it forward” to demonstrate how our efforts have made them water-safe. In 2011 and 2012, the C2C partnered with the Lenny Krayzelburg Foundation, providing the funding for free lessons at Bethune and Carver Elementary in Compton. With your help, we can expand the swim programs at these and other schools across LA.
Everyone’s a winner at the C2C. It doesn’t matter how fast you are or how many laps you swim, everyone who participates in the C2C is part of a winning campaign that has raised more than $40,000 and taught more than 1,450 kids how to swim and be safe in the water.
On June 2nd, you can sign up for a single 30-minute stage (and swim as many or few laps as you’d like), or give yourself a longer workout with multiple 30-minute stages. Long-distance swimmers who want to rack up extra miles for the cause can register for the 75 spots exclusively reserved for ‘Launchers’ and ‘Closers’ at the beginning and end of the C2C.
As thanks for your participation, all participants can take advantage of free coached workouts with Tower 26 and other notable coaches who’ll be on deck throughout the day. After you finish your swim, refuel with beverages and snacks provided by sponsors and visit the C2C fitness expo.
Those who participated in the previous C2C events know how much fun it is to take over the entire Culver City Plunge complete with music and socializing with friends on deck.
Register today for the C2C and join us in effort to make LA’s kids water safe!
